AKIRA DOG TRAINING

WHAT TRAINING METHODS

WILL BE USED?

Mandy believes passionately in force free, reward based training based on sound scientific evidence; that is methods that have been scientifically proven to be effective. We all prefer to learn by being set up to succeed and rewarded for getting it right, rather than being set up to fail so our behaviour can then be corrected. Dogs are no different, they learn quicker and more effectively this way and this method of learning fosters a secure and trusting relationship between you and your dog. Rewards are anything that your dogs loves – food, toys, playing, chasing, swimming, affection – we harness these motivators and use them to reward your dog for the behaviours that we want them to repeat.

The use of punishment or force can impede the learning process and can also have a very negative effect on your dog’s behaviour as well as their emotional and psychological well-being and damage the owner/dog relationship. Additionally the use of punishment does not address the underlying motivation behind the problem behaviour and generally achieves only short-term and unreliable results. Reward based training is not only more effective in the long-term, but ethically sound.

Mandy promotes a relationship with your dog based on mutual respect and trust. Dog ownership and training should be fun and rewarding and Mandy will help you to achieve this using simple, easy to understand methods. All she asks of the owner is the willingness to commit to the training and practice, practice, practice!
